Musculoskeletal (MSK) anatomy education is a critical foundation for developing competency among radiologists, physiatrists, rheumatologists, and orthopedic surgeons. However, current undergraduate medical curricula often exhibit significant deficiencies in instructional hours, integration of diverse teaching modalities, and clinical relevance. This narrative review synthesizes recent evidence (March 2021–March 2026) identified through a targeted search of Medline, Embase, and Scopus, with an emphasis on consensus guidelines, validation studies, and clinically focused publications related to MSK anatomy, imaging modalities (ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography), and curriculum design for medical students in relevant specialties. Multimodal interventions, including cadaveric dissection, radiological anatomy, case-based rheumatologic and rehabilitation modules, and technology-enhanced platforms such as 3D virtual models and AI-driven adaptive learning, have been associated with improvements in knowledge retention, spatial reasoning, diagnostic accuracy, and procedural confidence compared with didactic instruction alone. Persistent knowledge gaps undermine interpretive proficiency in MSK imaging, including the identification of synovitis and enthesopathy, and are linked to reduced clinical preparedness. Objective assessments reveal suboptimal performance despite completion of conventional preclinical training. Cadaveric dissection fosters practical skills and ethical professionalism, while early integration of imaging connects theoretical morphology with three-dimensional relational understanding and pathological
correlations in MSK and rheumatic diseases. Implementation frameworks recommend phased rollouts that incorporate stakeholder needs assessments, faculty development through train-the-trainer models, resource reallocation for pointof-care ultrasound and virtual reality, and strategies to address barriers, such as grants for low-resource settings and modularization to reduce curricular congestion. These evidence-based approaches support scalable reforms that produce MSK-literate clinicians prepared for precision diagnostics and interventional practice

Background: The ceremonial inauguration of the Medical Faculty at Lviv University on September 9, 1894, by Emperor Franz Joseph, signified the culmination of a decades-long endeavor to reestablish medical education in Lviv. The institution was initially established in 1784 under the auspices of Emperor Joseph II. However, it was subsequently dissolved in 1805 and subsequently reinstated in 1817, albeit without a medical faculty. This study provides an analysis of the faculty’s complete restoration as a result of international and interdisciplinary collaboration within the political, academic, and architectural spheres in the 19th century within the Habsburg Empire.
Materials and methods: Utilizing archival collections from Ukraine, Austria, and Poland, along with university repositories and current publications, this study performs a contextual and actor-focused analysis. Stakeholders are categorized into three sectors: governmental, academic, and technical. These categories are used to examine their respective roles and interactions.
Results: The reestablishment of the university was driven by the sustained advocacy of Lviv’s academic community, with support from the Galician Governorship, and it was officially authorized by the Viennese Ministry of Education through an Imperial Decree in 1891. Academic contributions from prominent scholars in Lviv, including Henryk Kadyi, and in Cracow, such as Ludwik Teichmann and Napoleon Cybulski, exerted a significant influence on the curriculum and spatial organization of the faculty. The supervision of the construction process was overseen by architect Josef Braunseis and builder Ivan Levynsky, who engaged in close consultation with academic experts. International suppliers furnished essential materials and equipment. The medical faculty was officially established in 1894, with the inaugural academic year commencing in 1894/95.
Conclusions: The restoration of the Medical Faculty in Lviv serves as a prime example of a trans-regional, interdisciplinary Habsburg endeavor, integrating political vision, scientific leadership, and architectural innovation.(Folia Morphol 2026; 85: e01726027)

Background: In the late nineteenth century, Lemberg (Lviv) and Graz were important provincial capitals of the Habsburg Empire, sharing common administrative and academic structures. Academic mobility within the empire was high, yet political upheavals of the 20th century caused many prominent scholars to fade from collective memory. This study examines Julius Planer von Plann (1827–1881), whose work significantly influenced the development of anatomical science in present-day Ukraine and Austria.
Material and Methods: Ukrainian, Polish and Austrian archival sources pertaining to the academic career of Julius Planer von Plann were consulted and contextualized.
Results: Julius Planer von Plann was a central figure in nineteenth-century anatomical science in Vienna, Lemberg, and Graz. From 1855–1863, he headed the Department of Descriptive Anatomy at the Medical-Surgical Institute and University of Lemberg, where he emphasized the practical surgical relevance of anatomy and supervised dissections. His research included early observations of blood pigment granules related to intermittent fever (1854) – later linked to malaria – and the first description of liquid-crystal behavior (1861). From 1863 until his death in 1881, Planer founded and directed the first Anatomical Institute in Graz, overseeing teaching, dissection exercises, and the construction of a modern anatomical building, while also contributing to faculty administration.
Conclusion: This study positions Julius Planer von Plann as a Central European anatomist, emphasizing his contributions to anatomical education and institutions in Lemberg (Lviv) and Graz, his involvement with emerging biophysical phenomena, and his role in exemplifying transregional academic mobility in the 19th century.

Aim: The study aimed to determine the peculiarities of the micro- and ultrastructural organization of the skin under conditions of a four-week administration of an opioid to experimental animals.
Materials and Methods: The study material included skin samples of white rats with injected vascular beds, histological preparations, and ultrathin skin
sections. The research methods involved injection techniques, histological analysis, electron microscopy, morphometric measurements, and statistical analysis.
Results: The results of the study revealed that after four weeks of nalbuphine administration to experimental animals, blood stasis was observed in the lumen of the capillaries and venules, along with perivascular edema and perivascular infiltrates consisting of neutrophils, lymphocytes, macrophages, and tissue basophils. The electron density of the nuclei and cytoplasm of the granular layer keratinocytes was reduced, keratinocytes in the stratum spinosum acquired a rounded shape, with some nuclei appearing shrunken and hyperchromatic, and their cytoplasm exhibiting vacuolization. In the reticular layer, thickened bundles of collagen fibers were observed, with localized swelling and fragmentation of the collagen fibers. Excessive formation of scales was noticed in the stratum corneum. The papillary layer of the dermis contained numerous mast cells and lymphocytes near blood vessels. The shape of sebaceous and sweat gland cells was altered, with swollen cytoplasm, and lymphohistiocytic infiltration was observed around them. A decrease (p<0.05) in the density of capillary loops in the subpapillary vascular plexus of the skin in the gluteal region of white rats after four weeks of nalbuphine administration, along with an increase (p>0.5) in the trophic activity index of the skin, confirms profound destructive changes in the vascular architecture of the skin.
Conclusions: Four weeks of nalbuphine administration induces irreversible pathological processes in all skin components.
