Мета дослідження. Представити історичні аспекти становлення стоматологічного факультету
у Львівському державному медичному інституті, науково-освітнє підґрунтя його формування, інформа-
цію про співробітників, які зробили свій внесок у створення факультету.
Методи дослідження. Використано бібліографічний метод вивчення бібліотечних каталогів; джерела
з історії медицини, педагогіки; хронологічний метод, що дозволив проаналізувати особливості станов-
лення і розвитку медичної освіти в різні історичні періоди.
Наукова новизна. Для підвищення якості освітнього процесу, забезпечення кадрових потреб прак-
тичної медицини була необхідність у створенні власного стоматологічного факультету, який очолив
проф. О.В. Коваль. У статті представлено ґрунтовну інформацію з питань еволюції формування стоматоло-
гічного факультету у Львові на історичному тлі того часу. Висвітлено особливості організації різних кафедр
факультету і забезпеченість навчального процесу, представлено імена патріотів-стоматологів, які відстою-
вали пріоритет української науки, розробляли залишену нам наукову спадщину. Тож пошук історичної істини
є вельми актуальним нині в умовах інтеграції України в ЄС та побудови демократичного суспільства.
Висновки. Основними визначальними критеріями процесу розвитку медичної освіти можна назвати:
поступове зростання мережі закладів медичної освіти, збільшення числа кафедр, збільшення кількості
студентів і викладачів у них, розширення змісту навчання, зміна рівня професійної підготовки медиків.

Purpose of the study. To present the historical aspects of the establishment of the Dentistry Faculty
at the Lviv State Medical Institute, the scientific and educational foundation of its formation, and information
about the staff who contributed to the creation of the faculty.
Research Methods: The bibliographic method was used to study library catalogs; sources on the history
of medicine, pedagogy; the chronological method, which allows to analyze the features of the formation
and development of medical education in different historical periods.
Scientific Novelty. The creation of the Dentistry Faculty, led by Prof. O.V. Koval, was essential to improve
educational quality and meet the personnel needs of practical medicine. Thus, the study provides comprehensive
information on the evolution of the Dentistry Faculty’s development in Lviv against the historical background
of that time. It also highlights the features of the organization of its departments and the provision of the educational process. It is important to identify the names of patriotic dentists who defended the priority of Ukrainian science and developed our scientific heritage. Therefore, the search for historical truth is particularly relevant today as Ukraine integrates into the EU and builds a democratic society.
Conclusions. The main determining criteria for the development of medical education can be identified as
the gradual expansion of medical educational institutions, the increase in departments, the growth in the number
of students and teachers, the broadening of educational content, and the improvement in the level of professional
training for medical professionals.
