Abstract.
Medical universities hold a special place as unique environments for collaborative learning and development. They are instrumental in shaping an individual's understanding, values, and professional conduct, which in turn influences their integration into society and their career path as adults. However, a significant challenge to upholding academic integrity in Ukraine, particularly at the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, is the widespread problem of academic work that falls short of expected quality, often not aligning with global standards. Additional concerns include instances of reusing one's own work without proper acknowledgment, improper use of intellectual property, inadequate citation practices, a lack of independent effort in completing academic tasks, and the misrepresentation of research data. These documented issues collectively account for an annual rate of deviation between 7% and 11% in scholarly articles, conference papers, and teaching materials, a proportion that is consistent with international observations. In response, members of the academic community have been advised and educated on the importance of correcting these issues and the fundamental principles for addressing the identified deficiencies. For egregious breaches of academic integrity, as delineated by the institutional Code of Academic Ethics, the Regulations on Academic Integrity, andprotocols for the initial examination of scholarly works for plagiarism, academic, scientific, and scientific-pedagogical personnel are subject to prescribed responsibilitymeasures.Expert review of research, including the use of plagiarism prevention tools, is vital for the accurate development of complex scientific topics, ensuring academic honesty and mutual respect among researchers. This approach is highly valued in today's academic and learning environments. Plagiarism detection software meets key requirements for checking scientific content, balancing the need for careful assessments with efficient time management and the volume of material to be reviewed. All individuals withinthe education system are expected to strictly uphold principles of academic honesty, self-reliance, and personal responsibility. Key ways to discourage unethical practices include fostering a sense of accountability from early education and creating a system where following academic ethics is a core belief, rather than just a formal requirement.
